For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ – Philippians 3:20.
When you got born again, you became a part of God’s family. You are welcome at His table and become an heir with Christ. What belongs to Jesus belongs also to you.
While your body is here on earth, your spirit was made alive with Christ. Ephesians 2:6 says that God raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:16-17 in the New Living Translation says this: For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
What does it mean to be a citizen of heaven?
As a citizen of a different country, you have rights and privileges from the country of origin. As citizens of heaven, you are to live on this earth according to the values of heaven and see what God sees.
- As a citizen of heaven, I have a spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
Through Jesus’ and the resurrection, He destroyed the works of the devil and when you got born again your spirit got born again from above and is now full of love, joy, peace, kindness, faithfulness and self-control. Jesus bought the price for your freedom from fear, lack, sickness and anything that comes from the enemy. When a negative word comes into your mind, cast it down out loud. Tell it to go in the name of Jesus and Speak God’s Word. Rejoice and give God the glory for your victory.
- As a citizen of heaven, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians 4:13.
You can do all things because Christ, the Anointed One is inside of you. The Holy Spirit inside of you has enabled you to do the same works Jesus did and even greater than He did because the power of the Holy Spirit is in you. If you believe this, nothing will be impossible for you because nothing is impossible for God. In the face of any changes and difficulties, remember that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Say this to yourself – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Your words have creative power so make sure only words that are in line with God’s Word are coming out of your mouth.
- As a citizen of heaven, I know that No weapon formed against me shall prosper… (First line from Isaiah 54:17)
Weapons may come toward you but know that they will not prosper, they cannot harm you. Jesus gave you the weapons against any works of the enemy – His Word and His Name. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy, says in John 10.10, but Jesus’ purpose is to give us, as believers a rich and satisfying life. The word used in the second part of this sentence comes from the Greek Word perissos which means exceeding abundantly, supremely, superabundantly, over and above, more than is necessary. This is the type of life Jesus died for and wants us to have – a peaceful life, without any guilt, shame, or fear, a life full of joy, health and prosperity. And He wants to guide us throughout life because he is the Good Shepherd.
- As a citizen of heaven, I know that greater is he who is in me than who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 says: “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world”.
Let’s see who is in you. John 14:16-17 say: “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you”. So the Holy Spirit is inside of you.
God is in you and you are in Him. Jesus said “On that day you will know that I am in my Father and you are in Me, and I am in you” (John 14:20). The great creator, the Spirit of Truth that came to live inside of you when you got born again is greater than Satan. Because we are in Him and He is in us, we have been given delegated authority and power. With the name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, you can go and subdue the devil’s influence. Don’t let anything come your way. You are God’s most precious possession, and He wants to bless you and look after you. Believe and trust Him.
